An important reminder of Scottish heritage is the Lion Rampant or Royal Banner of Scotland.

Whilst Scotland’s flag is the Saltire or St Andrew’s Cross, the Lion Rampant is linked more closely to the Monarchy and its representatives. It is flown over Scottish Royal buildings (Balmoral Castle and The Palace of Holyrood for example) when the monarch is NOT in residence. The Royal Standard of the United Kingdom is flown when the queen is in residence.

The Lion Rampant has been used as a heraldic emblem since the 13th Century but as an emblem of royalty for almost 200 years longer than that.

Here, this iconic symbol of Scottish patriotism and tradition, is ringed with a Celtic knot work frame.
